We spend roughly a third of our life sleeping and how we sleep has a big impact on our health and well-being. This is why it’s so important to curate your bedroom into the perfect sanctuary to get the optimum night’s sleep. Build your bed with style and purpose using our handy guide.
Step 1: Choose the right base
Having a solid foundation is the mark of a good bed. The first step is picking out the correct bed frame for you. Whether you are looking for something more traditional like a wooden bed frame, want the cushioned comfort of an upholstered bed, the mod cons of a TV bed or are in need of some extra storage with one of our ottoman beds, there are styles to suit every space.
Step 2: Getting the right support from your mattress
Picking out the correct mattress for you is crucial for feeling both comfortable and supported. At daals we offer memory foam, pocket spring and hybrid mattresses, which each offer different levels of firmness and support.
Step 3: Add a soft fitted sheet for comfort
Add a soft layer between you and the mattress with a fitted sheet, designed to enhance comfort and help keep the mattress cleaner and in better condition over time.
Fitted sheets feature elastic reinforced edges which prevent the sheet from moving and create a snug fit that is flat and smooth. With both standard and deep fitted sheets available, no matter the depth of your mattress there will be a fitted sheet to suit your bed.
Step 4: Flat sheet for protection and insulation
With a versatile design, flat sheets can either be used in place of fitted sheets to protect your mattress (a bottom sheet) or as an extra layer that sits between the fitted sheet and a duvet cover (a top sheet).
But what even is a top sheet?
A top sheet protects heavier bedding from body oils, sweat, and dirt, minimising how often you need to wash them. During warmer months a flat sheet could suffice as a lightweight standalone cover and in the colder weather it adds an extra layer of insulation to your bedding.
So how do you fit a flat sheet when using it as a top sheet?
Simply place it over the top of the fitted sheet, pulling it all the way up to the headboard and ensuring that it drapes evenly over each side of the bed. Tuck the bottom edge of the sheet and sides under the mattress. Fold the flat sheet back at the top for a ‘turned down’ look. Voila, you have a top sheet!
If you want your bedding to have that extra je ne sais quoi, hotel-style corners are a great way to enhance the neat and luxurious look.
How to get neat hotel-style corners on your flat sheet:

Step 5: Choosing a duvet set to fit your aesthetic
Providing decoration and warmth, the next step is to choose your duvet cover. At daals our duvet sets come in a wide variety of designs, materials and thread counts, so there is always a feel and finish to suit you.
Available in four sizes: Single, double, king and super king.
All of our duvet covers come with inner ties that will attach to the loops on your duvet to keep it securely in place. This means your bedding stays looking even and prevents cold spots and uncomfortable lumps.

Not all duvets have loops for our inner ties to attach to but there are some easy ways to DIY your own. One method is to sew some loops onto your duvet using ribbon or twill tape. Or if you would prefer not to sew, then you can also use duvet clips.

Step 6: Picking out pillowcases
The perfect way to add depth and decoration to your bed, our pillowcases come in regular, king size and continental square sizes. Each type of pillow plays its own role on your bed and can be layered for an eye-catching look. Check out pillows and pillowcases explained for a breakdown of their uses.
Available in housewife and oxford styles.
Step 7: Turn up the style and warmth with a bedspread
Draped over the top of all the other bedding, a bedspread adds depth and structure, as well as an extra layer of warmth. You can tuck it under your pillows for a cleaner, hotel-style look or drape it over your pillows and fold it back part way for a layered look.
and extra large (recommended for king or super king beds).
Step 8: Add depth and decoration with a cushion
Finish off the look with a co-ordinating decorative cushion. Positioned at the forefront of the bed, in front of the pillows you sleep on, it contributes to a layered, styled look that enhances the overall aesthetic of the bedroom.
Our decorative cushions all come with a polyester inner.
Now it's time to enjoy your beautiful bed! Whether you've opted for a more traditional aesthetic with a co-ordinated set or want to add some unique character to your space by mix and matching different pieces of bedding, you'll enjoy a comfortable night's sleep in your daals bedding for years to come.

Q: Where should I store my decorative cushions and excess bedding when I need less layers?
A: When the summer comes and you want to lighten the layers of your bedding, one of our ottoman benches is a stylish and practical way to store your excess bedding and decorative cushions.
