Yellow and mustard velvet sofas in 2 seater, 3 seater and corner styles

Yellow velvet sofas for people who've decided beige has had its turn. A yellow sofa is a commitment, the piece the whole room arranges itself around, and the one guests comment on before they've sat down. If that sounds like a lot, it is. If it sounds like the point, you're in the right place.

A fair thing to know upfront: our yellow velvet leans mustard rather than bright primary yellow. Think warm gold, turmeric, a touch of ochre, the kind of yellow that reads as rich rather than loud. One customer described it as "a cross between citrine, gold and turmeric," which is about right. Velvet also catches light differently through the day, and screens tend to render it brighter than it arrives, so it's worth ordering a swatch if the exact shade matters.

Across the range you'll find 2 seater frames for smaller rooms and 3 seater designs for the full sprawl, in the Clarence and Brigette ranges. Mustard velvet is the steady seller of the two.

Yellow sits beautifully against grey, navy, deep green and warm wood. Finish with velvet cushions, a velvet footstool, or browse the wider velvet sofas range.

Yellow Velvet Sofa Questions

Is the yellow more mustard or bright yellow?

Mustard, mostly. Our yellow velvet sits in the warm end of the spectrum: gold, turmeric, and a touch of ochre, rather than a bright primary or lemon yellow. One customer described their Clarence sofa as "a cross between citrine, gold and turmeric," which captures it well. It reads as rich and warm rather than loud. If you're after a vivid, zesty yellow, this isn't that. If you want a sophisticated, golden mustard, it's exactly that.

Will the colour match what I see in the photos?

Closely, with one honest caveat: velvet tends to arrive a shade deeper than it looks on screen. Several customers have noted the sofa is slightly darker than the product images while still being happy with the colour. This is normal for velvet. The pile absorbs and reflects light differently to a flat fabric, so screens tend to render it a little lighter than real life. If anything, expect it to look richer in person, not washed out.

Is a yellow sofa a bit of a risk? Will it date?

It's bolder than a neutral, no question, but mustard yellow has more staying power than people expect. It's a warm, earthy shade that sits in the same family as the browns, golds and ochres that recur in interiors decade after decade, rather than a trend driven neon. The way to make it feel considered rather than impulsive: ground it with neutral walls and let the sofa be the single hit of colour. A mustard sofa against grey or off white reads as deliberate, not loud.

What colours go with a yellow velvet sofa?

Yellow is more versatile than its reputation suggests. For a calm, grown up scheme, set it against grey, off white, or warm wood, where the sofa becomes the one point of colour. For something richer, pair it with navy, deep green, or charcoal, all of which make mustard look intentional and warm. Avoid competing brights next to it; yellow wants a calm backdrop to do its work. Cushions in cream, rust, forest green or a muted print are the easiest finishing touch.

Is the Clarence sofa comfortable, or do you sit quite high?

Comfortable, with one quirk worth knowing. The Clarence has thick, well proportioned seat cushions and a supportive backrest, and reviewers consistently call it comfortable. One did note the seat sits fairly high because the cushions are tall, so if a low, sink in sofa is what you're after, that's worth factoring in. For most people the height is a positive, since it makes getting up easier, but it's the kind of detail worth knowing before it arrives.
