Counter stools vs bar stools
● Counter stools fit standard kitchen counters that are 34–36 inches high.
● Seat height for counter stools is usually 24–26 inches.
● Bar stools fit taller bar tops (40–42 inches) with 28–30 inch seat heights. Tip: Measure from floor to the top of your counter, then subtract 10–12 inches. That number is your ideal seat height.
How high should counter stools be?
● For a 36 inch counter, pick stools with a 24–26 inch seat.
● Leave about 9–12 inches of leg room between the top of the seat and the underside of the counter.
● Thick countertops or aprons reduce leg room—measure from the underside, not just the top.

● If the stool swivels, has arms, or an extra-wide seat, allow 26–30 inches.
